Cards (2)

    • Batteries are formed by connecting two or more cells together in series to provide a greater voltage
    • In some cells, the chemical reactions at the electrodes are irreversible
    • The ions in the electrolyte and metal ions on electrode turn into products over time
    • The chemical reaction stops when one of the reactants has been used up
    • The products cannot be turned back into the reactants, so the cell cannot be recharged
    • Alkaline batteries are non-rechargeable
    • Rechargeable batteries and cells can be recharged because the chemical reaction can be reversed by connecting an external electrical current
