Mitosis and cell cycle

• Cell cycle before mitosis:

  • Before division, cell has to grow and increase number of subcellular structures
  • DNA replicates to form two copies of each chromosome
• Mitosis:

  • Chromosomes line up at centre of cell and pulled to each end of cell
  • Nucleus divides
  • Cytoplasm and cell membrane divide to form two identical daughter cells
• • Mitosis is important for growth and development of multicellular organisms
