• • Two adrenal glands which sit on top of the kidneys – each gland is made up of two parts:​
• • Outer part = adrenal cortex​
• • Inner part = adrenal medulla
• Adrenal cortex​

  • Cortisol à regulates cardiovascular functions; increases glucose in blood; increased in response to stress​
  • Aldosterone à maintains blood volume and pressure
• Adrenal medulla​

  • Releases adrenaline and noradrenaline à prepares body for fight or flight ​
  • Adrenaline à helps body respond to stressful situations; increasing heart rate​
  • Noradrenaline à causes increased blood pressure
