      going along with others in public but privately not changing opinions and or behaviours
    • what does compliance result in?

      superficial change. as soon as the pressure stops the behaviour also stops
    • define identification
      publicly changing our opinions to be accepted by the group, even if we don't privately agree with everything the group stands for
    • identification = because you LIKE the group
    • define internalisation
      when someone genuinely accepts the group norms. private & public change of opinions/behaviour
    • internalisation = usually a long-term change
