Restrain a cat for cephalic venipuncture and raise the vein (in readiness for an intravenous injection)
Position the cat so its head is facing the person taking the blood sample, with the side of its body up against yourself.
Restrain the cat’s head by placing a few fingers under its head/neck.
Gently holding the cat against your body, hold the cat’s forelimb and extend it forward a little.
Use your thumb to raise the vein, placing thumb on the dorsal aspect of the forelimb at the elbow.
Slightly rotate your thumb laterally, to bring the vein to an optimum position.
