  • Blood is a tissue made out of plasma, platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells.
    • Plasma = 55%
    • Platelets and white blood cells = <1%
    • Red blood cells = 45%
    • Red blood cells bind to oxygen to transport it from the lungs to the tissue and cells which need it for respiration.
    • White blood cells help protect the body from infections.
    • Plasma transports various chemicals around the body such as the product of digestion, hormones, antibodies, urea and carbon dioxide.
    • Platelets are fragment cells which collect at a wound to trigger blood clotting.
