L5.1.2.4: Major Provisions

• Government is mandated to “promote, without bias, all effective natural and modern methods of family planning that are medically safe and legal”
• Although abortion is illegal, the “government shall ensure that all women needing care for post-abortion complications shall be treated and counseled in a humane, non-judgemental and compassionate manner”
• A “multi-dimensional Approach” integrates a component of family planning and responsible parenthood into all government anti-poverty programs.
• Age-appropriate reproductive health and sexuality education is required from grade 5 to 4th year high school using “life skills and other approaches”
• The Department of Labor and Employment is mandated to guarantee reproductive health rights to its female employees

  ○ Companies with less than 200 workers are required to enter into a partnership with health care providers in their area for the delivery of reproductive health services

  ○ Extension of maternity leave and paternity leave
• Spontaneous Abortion — Miscarriage

  ○ A form of abortion that is legal in the country since it’s not intentional.

  ○ Induced forms of abortion are illegal.
• Age-appropriate Sexuality Education

  ○ Required from grade five up to fourth year high school using “life skills and other approaches.”
• Maternity Leave

  Normal Birth: 105 Days

  C-Section: 120 Days
