Colles Fractures

Cards (2)

  • Colle's Fracture:
    • distal radius fracture - 2.5 cm proximal to the radiocarpal joint with radial and dorsal displacement
    • Mechanism of injury: FOOSH + Wrist extension
    • Investigation:
    • Imaging: Xray (AP + Lateral) - necessary to see degree of displacement
    • Dorsal Angulation & Displacement
    • Radial Displacement & shortening
    • Commonly known as “Dinner fork” - due to dorsal displacement of distal section
    • Management will depend on degree of displacement and bone health
    • Non-displaced: NWB & POP 4 - 6 weeks
    • Displaced: NWB & Closed reduction or ORIF + POP
  • Colle's Fracture - Management:
    • plaster of Paris (POP)
