distal radius fracture - 2.5 cm proximal to the radiocarpal joint with radial and dorsal displacement
Mechanism of injury: FOOSH + Wrist extension
Investigation:
Imaging: Xray (AP + Lateral) - necessary to see degree of displacement
Dorsal Angulation & Displacement
Radial Displacement & shortening
Commonly known as “Dinner fork” - due to dorsal displacement of distal section
Management will depend on degree of displacement and bone health
Non-displaced: NWB & POP 4 - 6 weeks
Displaced: NWB & Closed reduction or ORIF + POP
