Other Tendon Injuries

Cards (2)

  • Other Tendon Injuries - FCU
    • flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU) and palmaris longus are the only tendons to not pass through an enclosed sheath
    • therefore not prone to stenosing conditions/triggering
    • Overuse and degeneration or acute injury
    • Features: anteromedial  pain, activity related
    • Aggravated by flexion and ulnar deviation, eg hammering, request sports
    • Additional tests: resisted flexion and ulnar deviation
    • Treatment of relative rest then stretch and strengthen may be most appropriate
  • Other Tendon Injuries - ECU
    • extensor carpi ulnaris is part of the TFCC
    • has a tendon sheathprone to stenosing tenosynovitis, tendinitis, fraying
    • Associated with club and racquet sports
    • Associated ulnar side wrist or DRU joint injury can be present making diagnosis challenging
    • Traditional testing of resisted extension and ulnar deviation also loads TFCC -> conflicting results.
    • Features: posteromedial pain, activity related
    • Aggravated by extension and ulnar deviation
    • Treatment: activity modification then build capacity through strengthening
