Single and Double Blind procedures

Cards (2)

  • What is a single blind procedure?

A single blind procedure is when the researcher does know the condition each individual participant is apart of, such as a placebo, but the participant does not know the condition they are apart of. This is useful for reducing demand characteristics in participants.
  • What is a double blind procedure?

In a double blind procedure, neither the participant nor the researcher knows who is apart of what condition, this controls both demand characteristics in the participants and investigator effect in the researcher.
