Levi Strauss looked at the idea of How meaning is dependent upon (and produced through) pairs of opposites. ‘Day‘ wouldn’t exist without ‘night’.
Binary oppositions are when two things are in opposition to each other, such as good and evil, black and white, or right and wrong.
Through binary oppositions we can learn about characters and themes, conflict between characters and opposing ideologies.
