• qualified lawyers who specialise in particular areas of law
• carry out almost all roles of solicitor, all their work must be supervised by a qualified solicitor or barrister or licensed conveyancer
• they advise clients, prepare documents, appear in court if there is rights of audience
• legal executives professional body - CILEx
• poor service - law firm in house procedures, legal ombudsman
• misconduct - CILEx regulation board investigate complaint, put their findings in professional conduct panel. Can reject claim, reprimand legal executive, give a warning for serious matters, refer complaint too disciplinary tribunal who has power to make them pay up to £3000 or rescind their membership in serious cases.
