• Test for carbohydrates: Benedict's test

  
  

  If present: mixture turns from blue to green to yellow to orange to brick red.

  • If absent: remains blue.
  • Crush and grind to make extract.
  • Add benedict’s solution.
  • Gently heat the mixture.
