    • What is the purpose of the epidermal tissue?
      To protect surfaces and sometimes produce a waxy substance to keep the leaves waterproof.
    • What is the purpose of palisade mesophyll?
      Contains lots of choloroplasts.
    • What is the purpose of a spongy mesophyll?
      Contains some chloroplasts but have a large surface area to make the diffusion of gases easier.
    • Xylem and phloem tissues transport ions throught the plant.
    • What does xylem tissues transport?
      Water and mineral ions from the roots to the leaves.
    • What do phloem tissues transport?
      Dissolved foods from the leaves to around the plant.
    • Stomata opens to release water vapour which is known as transpiration
    • Guard cells control how wide the stomata opens to let in carbon dioxide and let out water vapour.
