The Gallipoli Campaign

• Date - 25th of April at Dawn
• Location - Mediterranean front
• Comprised of soldiers from: Britain, France, India, Australia and New Zealand
• Purpose - To capture the peninsula in Gallipoli to allow Russia to gain supplies for soldiers and prevent them from pulling out of the war.
• Issues:

  • Error in arrival as boats did not arrive to planned location
• Issues:

  • Boats did not arrive to planned location
  • Arrival under gunfire - many soldiers were killed or injured
  • Cannons directed to the cove
  • Many troops told to move south were exposed to Turkish forces
• Eventually, General Ian Hamilton dictated a response to the officials request for evacuation, ordering to stay in trenches which lasted for eight months.
