1998: the Northern Ireland Act was passed, granting devolution, the first elections for the Assembly were held
1999: the devolved government took power for the first time
2002: increased tension between the Loyalists and Republicans + failure of ministers to cooperate meant the government dissolved the assembly until 2007
2017: the Northern Irish government colapss in January as power sharing breaks down
2020: the government is restored in January after an agrement between Sinn Fein and the DUP
