    •High dependence on leader for guidance and direction
    •Members starting to know one another
    •Little agreement on the aims of the team, other than from the leader
    •Members roles unclear and team leader must give strong direction
  • Storming
    •Groups decisions are difficult
    •Members jostle for position in the team to establish themselves
    •A clearer focus for the team although many uncertainties
    •Cliques may form and maybe power struggles
    •Team must focus on aims rather than becoming distracted by relationships
    •Environment of compromise in order to progress
    •Leader more advisory, coaching role
  • Norming
    •More agreement and consensus of opinion in the team
    •Clearer roles and responsibilities generally accepted
    •Important decisions made through group agreement
    •Less important decisions are delegated
    •Much more social at this stage and friendly with each other
    •Respect for the leader and leadership likely to be shared
  • Performing
    •Team has more strategies, clear vision and clear aims
    •No participation or interference from the leader, members are trusted to get on with their roles
    •Focused on achieving goals to meet the aim
    •Disagreements occur but now are resolved within the team positively with necessary changes made
    •No instruction or assistance needed
    •Team members might ask for support from leader with personal or interpersonal issues

    • the motivation which attracts individuals to a group and the resistance of those members to the group breaking up
