Prophase₁ = Spindle fibres appear and the chromosomes get into homologous pairs. They then exchange and transfer genetic information, this is called Crossing Over
Metaphase₁ = The homologous pairs now line up in the middle of the cell.
Anaphase₁ = Spindle fibres then pull the chromosomes away from their pairs to each end of the cell. The cell starts to divide.
Telophase = Chromosomes are at opposite ends of the cells where 2 new nuclei are forming around them. Cell almost finished dividing.
Cytokinesis = Cytoplasm splits to form 2 new cells.
Explain the Process of Meiosis (P₂M₂A₂T₂)
(Present)Prophase, Spindle fibres start to become visible and chromosomes condense
(Middle) Metaphase, Chromosomes line up in a single file line in the middle of the cell
(Away) Anaphase, Chromatids are pulled to both ends of the cell by the spindle fibres, Cell starts to divide
Telophase, 2 Nuclei start to form around chromosomes at both ends of the cell, cell almost finished dividing
(Complete) Cytokinesis, The cytoplasm splits and now forms 4non-identicalhaploidgametes.
Differences in Meiosis/Mitosis
Meiosis happens with haploid cells/Mitosis happens with diploid cells.
