A design brief is the starting point of a new product. It explains the general nature of the task or problem to be solved. There are generally 2 types – open and closed.
Open design brief
General, may be a small number of specified requirements
Wide range of possible solutions for the designer
More time and money can be wasted producing a solution that may be unacceptable to the client
Closed design brief
Much more specific - will have a lot of detail about what the client wants
The client has more influence on the design
It can sometimes hinder the designer from creating new and more innovative solutions.
