    • Search engines
      A search engine is a software system designed to carry out web searches. Examples include Google, Bing and Yahoo.
      An internet search engine such as Google can be used to gather information required to design your product.
      Internet searches can provide explanations, technical information, images, videos, product reviews, drawings and maps that can be useful for a designer.
      The more specific the search terms used, the more relevant will be the web pages found.
    • Questions
      Asking questions is a good way to gather people’s opinions and views about the product you are researching.
    • Surveys
      A survey is a research method used for collecting data from a predefined group of respondents to gain information and insights into various topics of interest.
      Surveys can be carried out face-to-face, distributed physically by post or completed online via websites or social media.
      Surveys of the target market are a good way to gather information about your proposed product. A questionnaire containing multiple choice response questions, ratings, or short answer responses, can provide valuable feedback to the design team.
    • Observation
      This could include observing people while they are using a similar product and recording their responses, opinions and thoughts.
    • User trips
      User trips go through the whole process of using a product and looks at 3 key stages; set up, use and putting away.
