  • osmosis practical

prepare sucrose solutions of different concentrations ranging from pure water to very concentrated solution , use a cork borer to cut cylinders of potato of same size preferably from the same potato , divide the cylinders into groups of 3 and use a mass balance to measure the mass of each group , place one group in each solution , leave the cylinders in the solution for 40 minutes , then remove the cylinders and pat dry gently with a paper towel , this removes excess weight making the results more accurate , , weigh each group again and record results
  • how to calculate percentage change
final mass - initial mass divided by initial mass x 100
  • how long should you leave them in solution for
    40 minutes
  • how wide should they be
    1 cm wide
  • divide them into groups of .....

    3
  • what do you use to measure mass of each group
    mass balance
  • why do you pat potato gently

to remove excess water and give more accurate readings
