  • Designers
    • The designer is the person who designs and develops the product.
    • They provide the inspiration and creative input to the team.
    • They work with all other members of the design team to ensure that their creative vision is achieved while adhering to budgets, timescales, environmental concerns, ensuring the product is fit for purpose and it’s users and meets all safety and IPR laws and regulations.
  • Ergonomists
    • The ergonomist has expertise in all areas of ergonomics.
    • They will help the designer ensure their product meets their target markets needs in terms of anthropometrics, physiology and psychology.
  • Lawyers
    • A lawyer will advises the designer on all legal aspects to do with the product they are designing.
    • This might include making sure that the product being designed does not breach any of the intellectual property rights of other products or that no other companies are using the anything from their company that is protected by intellectual property rights.
  • Production engineers
    • The production engineer knows and advises on available production processes such as planning methods, tooling and assembly methods.
    • They advise the designer during the design process by trying to find the best method of production for their product by looking at areas such as budget, environmental concerns, and the availability of materials and would work with the materials technologist to ensure the product is produced as efficiently as it can be.
  • Project managers
    • The project manager manages company projects from start to finish by ensuring that projects are delivered on time and in budget and by planning and organising resources and people.
    • They will work with all members of the design team across the products design, development and manufacture to keep the project on time and in budget.
  • Market researchers
    • A market researcher will collect and analyse data and information about the products intended the target market.
    • They may use surveys, user trials and interviews to conduct their research and then will present this to the designer to assist with the design of the product.
    • They can also offer advice about possible future trends and current market activity.
  • Materials technologists
    • A materials technologist has knowledge of materials and the properties each has.
    • They advise designers about the materials which would be best for the product by considering the materials’ properties, buying costs and availability.
    • They also often know about any emerging materials and work with others in the design team to ensure that the material chosen is suitable for the manufacturing methods.
