Bicameralism

• Bicameralism : political system where there are two chambers in the legislature
• Generally the lower house is dominant and the composition of the upper house varies
• More revision of legislation, checks and balances
• Greater scrutiny of bills
• Conflict between the two houses may produce legislative gridlock
• An indirectly elected upper house may frustrate the will of the democratically elected lower house
