      • amber - warns you of hazard / temporary maximum speed limit
      • red and red X - mustnt drive within the lane as closed beyond the signal
      • red in central reservation / side of the road and lane closed sign shows - mustnt go beyond the signal in any lane
      • red lights at start of slip road - do not enter / try to join motorway at that junction
    • arm signal
      used to strengthen / clarify message given by your indicators like when youre signalling to turn right in busy traffic
    • if youre slowing down / stopping just after a junction , wait to signal until youre passing the junction or just after it
    • horn mustnt be used between 11.30 pm and 7 am
    • only flash headlights to warn other road users that you are there
    • police will use blue lights to get you to stop
      traffic officers will use flashing amber
    • contraflow lanes
      lanes that flow in the opposite direction to most traffic
    • when you see contra flow lanes at roadworks reduce your speed in good time
