Reductionism- more objective to consider basic components of behaviour, studying basic units of behaviour underpins the scientific approach/adds weight to scientific research, leads to greater clarity of understanding- the chemical cellular level
Reductionism negatives- simplistic and ignores the complex interactions of many factors, leads to us losing sight of behaviour in context, less able to understand the behaviour because we do not understand its meaning- lose its validity.
Holism- explaining a phenomenon by explaining the whole person/experience/disorder rather than the basic parts
Holism- reminds us the whole is not just a sum of parts but how they work together as a combo of factors to cause these behaviours,
