  • title of investigation:
To investigate the difference in the discharge and sediment characteristics of the sher brook
  • method 1 - width of the river

did ours match the bradshaw model?
yes - it started off thin and then got wider
    upstream - 4m
    downstream - 4.7m
  • method 2-depth of the river(cross section)

did it match the bradshaw model?
yes - it started off shallow and then got deeper
    upstream - 7.5cm
    downstream - 10.5cm
  • method 3 - velocity
does it match the bradshaw model?
NO - the BM says the velocity should increase as you go down stream, our data suggests the water slows down when moving downstream
however, this may be unreliable - things blocking the river such as logs
  • method 4- width and length of stones
    did it match bradshaw model?
NO - we expect stones to get smaller as you go down stream due to erosion. Our data suggests the stones get bigger, which contradicts the BM
However, our data may be unreliable as people may have been biased on what stones they chose
  • method 5 - bed loading roundness (powers index)

does it match the bradshaw model?
yes - the stones get smoother as you go down stream
