starch cellulose and glycogen

• starch is a polymer of alpha glucose, it has a helical structure which makes it compact
• starch is insoluble in water so doesnt alter water potential inside cells, it can also be stored inside seeds
• starch is a large molecule so doesnt leave cells
• starch is made of amylose and amylopectin
• glycogen is polymer of alpha glucose, it has a similar structure to amylopectin but the branches are shorter
• glycogen is the main form of energy storage in animals
• cellulose is a ploymer of beta glucose, it is rigid and insoluble so is used to strengthen cell walls in plants
• cellulose is long straight and unbranched and its cahins form microfibrils due to H-bonds
