CHRISTIANS BELIEF ABOUT THE CREATION OF THE WORLD AND HUMANS

• Genesis 1

  • Christians believe that God created the world and everything in it, they believe that he created the heaven and earth first
  • God made the world in 6 days, rested on the seventh
  • God said "let there be light" and light is created, demonstrating the power of God
• Sin and Fall:

  • The Bible tells us about the fall of humanity (Genesis 3), where Adam and Eve disobeyed and introduced sin into the world (Original sin)
  • Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil as a serpent tempted Eve and made her question Gods command
• John 1:

  • The "word" is the son (Jesus)
  • He was God and he was there in the beginning
  • Nothing was made without him
• • Literal - some Christians the creation stories in Genesis literally, they believe God wrote the events in the Bible exactly as they happened
• • Metaphorical - some Christians believe that the stories are metaphors or symbolic descriptions, they accept scientific theories about the origins of the universe eg the Big Bang theory
