Active Transport

Cards (4)

  • What is active transport?
The movement from particles from an area of lower concentration to higher concentration, requiring ATP
  • Why is active transport an active process?
    It requires ATP
  • Why is energy needed for active transport?
To move molecules against their concentration gradient.
  • How are carrier proteins involved in active transport?
Large ions binds to carrier protein
    ATP binds to carrier protein
ATP is hydrolysed (released a phosphate)
Causes carrier protein to change shape
Releases ion on opposite side of membrane
Phosphate is released from protein causing it to return to its normal shape
