cell transport

Cards (11)

  • hypotonic
    dilute solution- water enters
  • hypotonic- animal cell
    mass increased till cell bursts
  • hypotonic- plant cell
mass increases, cell wall supports (turgid)
  • isotonic
same conc - no net movement
  • isotonic- animal cell
    mass stays the same
  • isotonic- plant cell
    mass stays the same- flacid
  • hypertonic
    concentrated solution- water leaves
  • hypertonic- animal cell
    mass decreases- cell shrivels
  • hypertonic- plant cells

mass decreases, cell membrane separates form cell wall - plasmolyed
  • osmosis practical

    independent: conc of salt solution
dependent: mass of potato, length of potato(end)
control: volume of solution, length of potato(start), temp
  • osmosis practical steps
    1. prepare samples of potatoes (gently dry to remove excess liquid) and place in different concentrations of sugar chlorine solution(0 mol/dm^3 - 1 mol/dm^3) in test tubes
    2. take measurements of mass and the length of your samples before and after soaking them in solutions
    3. calculate the percentage change mass of plant tissue
    4. plot and draw graph results
