  • A new scheme,but not a new idea.Crucial stage for both the offender and the victim
  • Switch of emphasis from the needs of the state to the needs of the individual.Victims and offenders are encouraged to take part.

    -victim is give the chance to say how the event affected them & offender is able to see the consequences.
  • Restitution
    Restitution is a monetary payment by the offender to the survivor for harm for the offence
    Financial – offender pays
    Practical – offender does repair themselves
    Emotional – support healing process by helping to rebuild the survivor’s confidence
  • Sentencing
    RJ could occur pre trial and so impact sentencing
    It could be that this is an alternative to prison (especially is offender is young)
    Alternatively RJ could occur while in prison as an incentive to reduce length of sentence
  • The RJC
    Restorative Justice Council (RJC) sets and monitors standards, and supports survivors and specialists in the field
    They promote the use of RJ principles as a general way to prevent and manage conflict
