• the right side of the brain processes information from the left half of the body
• the left side of the brain processes information from the right half of the body
• the left hemisphere:

  • is the language centre of the brain
  • controls the right hand
  • receives information from the right visual field
• the right hemisphere:

  • focuses on visuo-spatial tasks
  • controls the left hand
  • receives information from the left visual field
• hemispheric lateralisation- the assumption that the two halves or hemispheres of the brain are functionally different. Certain mental processes are controlled by one hemisphere e.g. language (left)
