Oppurtunity sampling

Cards (3)

  • what is it?
simply selecting those people that are available at the time e.g. going up to people in cafe's and asking them to be interviewed
  • advantage
quick and easy, you use the first participants you can find which means it takes less time to locate your sample compared to other sample methods, convenient and economical. one of most common types of sampling in practice
  • disadvantage
very unrepresentative samples and often biased by the researcher who will likely choose people who are 'helpful'. will be biased as you will only be selecting from a small subgroup of the target population
