RP3 - rate of reaction change

Cards (4)

  • Reagents for this RP
    sodium thiosulfate and HCl
  • What can be used for the rate?
    1/T
  • How come we can use 1/T for rate?
-approximation because we can assume amount of product formed is the same and is constant each time so change in concentration is the same, so only time take to reach concentration is relevant
  • Method to measure rate with sodium thiosulphate and HCl
-measure out reagents, put in separate boiling tubes, 10cm3 each
-choose temp to investigate, use water bath to get to that temp
-place flask on centre of a large cross
    -add sodium thiosulfate to HCl
    -start stopwatch, swirl to mix
    -repeat with different temperature
