  • Four components

    Central executive, phonological loop, visuo-spatial sketchpad, episodic buffer
  • Central executive
    • CE coordinates 3 other components (slave systems)
    • Has limited capacity and can't store information
  • Phonological loop
    • Responsible for coordinating auditory information
    • 2 divisions: phonological store (spoken words) and articulatory process (written words)
  • Visuo-spatial sketchpad
    • Stores visual and spatial information
    • Limited capacity
    • Info temporarily stored here
  • Episodic buffer
    • Separate from LTM but forms important stage in long-term episodic learning
    • Capacity is limited
