• The Humanistic approach focuses on personal growth and free will
• Maslows hierarchy of needs has physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem and self actualisation
• Congruence is when there is a similarity between an ideal self and self image
• One weakness of the humanistic approach is that it is unrealistic and does not consider self destructive behaviour
• One strength of the humanistic approach is its links to economic development
• Conditions of worth are conditions on a person's behaviour to earn positive regard from others
• A limitation of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is that it assumes everyone wants to be self-actualised
