Olympic Park - Regeneration

• The site for the olympic park covers 4 boroughs - Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, ​and Hackney
• 56% of the area covered had high levels of deprivation
• Unemployment in August 2010 was 12.9%, closure of dockyard led to 120,000 jobs being lost - 60% of adults were unemployed
• 80,000 seater stadium was built - claimed by West Ham - legacy
• 97% of materials demolished were re-used in building the olympic site
• Olympic village meant to create 3000 affordable homes (only 1200 were affordable)
• Created 50,000 long term jobs with 31,000 additional jobs created as a result of FDI
• Attracts 800,000 visitors a year
• The target to cut 100,000 tonnes of emissions was met
• Additional inwards investment of £2.5 billion was recieved
• Unemployment in the area decreased by 4%
• The cost of living increased by 69% in Hackney
