A study of encoding

• Aim 


  To see if there is a difference in encoding of the stm and ltm
• Method


  5 groups each given a list of words to learn. 4 groups different lists
• Method - lists


  A = acoustically similar, B = acoustically different, C = semantically similar, D = semantically different
• Method - time


  A and B = recalled their list immediately, C and D = recalled their list after 20 minutues
• Results


  Recall was the worst for list A and list C
• Conclusion

  STM is encoded acoustically and LTM is encoded semantically
