  • known as passover as God passed over the houses of the israelites during the tenth and final plague - death of the egyptain firstborn
  • often called the festival of freedom
  • many jews remove all grain products from their house
  • pesach is welcomed into the house with the lighting of candles
  • a lamb bone - a symbol of sacrifice. On the first Passover, God ordered Jews to kill a lamb and mark their front doorposts with blood
  • a roasted egg - a symbol for the new life Jews had after their escape from Egypt and of new life in general
  • a green vegetable dipped in salt water - to remember the tears when the Jews were in captivity
  • a paste made of chopped apples, walnuts and wine called charoset - representing the mortar the Jewish slaves had to use when building
