  both people in the poems are stripped of their identity but in COMH it is controlled by the government and in MLD it is controlled by the duke.
• quotes- power of humans

  "Dem tell me" repetition emphasises the amount of power which was held over them and how they have the authority to control what they learned about.

  "tell" shows us how there was no room to talk or share his opinion he was told what he was learning and there was no conversation about it.
• Quotes-identity

  "Bandage up me eye with me own history" his culture and black historical figures have been hidden from him so essentially his true identity has been hidden from him and it has tried to be manipulated by telling him history about things with noting to do with his own background.

  "i carving out me identity" final line and final work being identity which sums up what the poem is all about. "I" takes responsibility and shows that if nobody will teach him about his identity he will have to teach himself.
