The first stage of the cell cycle is
INTERPHASE
Cell grows
Number of
sub-cellular
structures like
mitochondria
replicates
DNA replicates to form 2 copies of each chromosome (ordered in size)
Further growth occurs and DNA is checked for errors, any repairs needed are made
The second stage of the
cell cycle
is
MITOSIS
Chromosomes
move to opposite poles (left and right) and the nucleus divides
Genetic material
is split into 2
The third stage of the
cell cycle
is
CYTOKINESIS
Cytoplasm splits into 2 and cell membrane reforms to give 2 genetically identical
daughter cells
