  • Benator - more boys drop out of school, fewer men earn degrees, more men die younger, more are incarcerated. He argues that the issue is under-researched and a neglected form of sexism.
  • Benator - The prison population, the number of people dropping out out of school and homeless people are overwhelmingly male. Men are seen at the very top and very bottom.
  • Farrell - The observer - Of the 25 professions ranked lowest in the US, 24 of them are 85-100% male.
  • 2010 Office for national statistics:
    • Men in the uk work on average 39 hours a week compared with 34 hours for women.
    • Healthwise, men develop heart disease 10 years earlier than women
    • Young men are 3x more likely to commit suicide
  • Education:
    • Boys are 4x more likely to be ecluded from school
    • In 2014, 3,920 boys were excluded from school compared to 1030 girls
  • Family life:
    • Warin - Majoirty of family members believe the father should be the breadwinner. Those in low paid jobs or unemployed were frustrated & sad
  • Health:
    • 80% of alcoholics and 67% of those who drink to a hazardous level are men.
    • 75% dependant on cannabis and 69% onother illegal drugs are male
  • Digital divide:
    DCMS - men tend to be underrepresented in certain areas of digital education, such as coding boot camps or digital skills training programs, even though they are typically overrepresented in many technology sectors.
  • Crime:
    • Ministry of Justice (2023), about 95% of people in UK prisons are male.
    • Office for National Statistics (ONS) 2021, men are more likely than women to be victims of violent crime, particularly homicide. 73% of homicide victims in the UK in 2020 were male.
    • Ministry of Justice (2017), approximately 25% of male prisoners have a serious mental health problem, compared to a lower rate among female prisoners.
