Gender identity (2-3 years)

• 1 - Gender identity occurs at 2-3 years

  • children can label self and others sex
• the child can identify people as male or female
• the child can use appropriate labels

  • boy/ man
  • girl/ woman
• however, this knowledge is fragile and based on outward appearance only
• children think that they're sex could change and they could change into the opposite sex
• children sometimes choose incorrect labels and they believe sex can be reassigned
