Forces

Cards (11)

  • What are the 9 kinds of forces?
Friction, air resistance, push, pull, electrostatic, weight, upthrust, magnetic, reaction force
  • What happens to an object when balanced forces act on it?
It will move at a constant speed or remain stationary
  • What is the effect of unbalanced forces on an object?
They will cause the object to accelerate or decelerate
  • Name some scalar quantities.
Temperature, speed, mass, energy, distance, density
  • Name some vector quantities.
    Force, momentum, displacement, velocity
  • What does Hooke's law state?
Force is directly proportional to extension
  • What is elastic deformation?
Material returns to its original shape after the force is removed
  • What is inelastic deformation?
Material does not return to its original shape after the force is removed
  • What does Newton's 2nd Law state?
The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the force acting on it
  • What does Newton's 3rd Law state?
Whenever two objects interact, the forces they exert on each other are equal and opposite
  • Distance is a scalar quantity because it contains magnitude (size, like 5m) but no direction (u can travel is any and all directions yet it doesn’t effect ur distance, it still measures)
