• • many Americans were patriotic
  • when the government said they had to take part in the Vietnam War to fight against communism, they did so willingly
  • patriotism drove many people to support war
  • this was to make the USA not look like they were giving into a communist country
• Hard hat riot - 1970:

  • nickname for construction workers
  • after Kent State, there were demonstrations in protest
  • at New York protest in early 1970, construction workers went out in hard hats and beat up protesters
  • the rioters protested about the gov. not being hard enough on anti-war protestors and communists
