  • Disadvantage - political influence:
    • Where a gov has a small majority it will be restricted in what they propose
    • Coalition gov 2010-2015
  • Advantage- lobbyists:
    • Persuade an individual mp to support their cause
    • Can ask question im parliament or promote a bill
    • Work on behalf of charities or businesses
  • Disadvantage: lobbyists:
    • Can be used by anyone
    • can easily become corrupted
    • Anyone can take advantage
    • Could lead to abuse of process
  • Advantage - pressure gorups:
    • Influence policy and law making
    • Membership can exceed political parties
    • Raise issues and concerns e.g: father4justice campaign
  • Disadvantage- pressure groups:
    • Can impose their own ideas
    • Public may not support these ideas
    • Can lead to contradictions And opposing ideas
    • E.g fox hunting against cruel sports
  • Advantage - public opinion
    • Media campaigns can lead to change
    • E.g snowdrop campaign
    • Created by grieving parents after dunblane massacre
    • Banned privste ownership of guns
    • Firearms amendment act 1997
  • Disadvantage - public opinion
    • Media can manipulate the news and influence public opinion
    • Can scare population into thinking problem is bigger than it actually is
    • Public wanting immediate action e.g: dangerous dogs act
