manufacturing processes t8

Cards (20)

  • What is one off production?

one off production is when one or a small number of products are made at one time, this is very expensive and requires very skilled workers to create labour intensive projects for the consumer
  • What is batch production?

Making groups of identical products at a time. Each batch is exactly the same e.g. same colour, high skill, safe way to test the market and see if the product sells
  • What is mass production?

making large quantities of a product quickly and cheaply, very efficient, repeated accuracy, uses cam normally
  • What is continuous production?

Manufacturing of identical high demand products, 24 hours a day, does not stop, wide consumption
  • What is just in time production?

Planning system that the correct components are delivered exactly when needed, saves money on storage, allows workers to control speed of delivery
  • What is Jidoka?

Linked to jit, uses tickets to indicate what stage a job is in production
  • What is kaizen?

Japenese production system based on more on philosophy of continuous improvement
  • What are the 5 S of kaizen?

Sort, set in order, shine, standardise, sustain
  • What is an automated guided vehicle?

ACVs or automated guided vehicles, used in modern production facilities to move components efficiently from one place to another, follow magnetic strips/ proximity sensors
  • What is FMS?

flexible manufacturing systems, are production cells that offer a wide range of options which can be adapted depending on the task
  • What are the 8 wastes?

defects, overproduction, waiting, not utilizing staff talent, transportation, inventory, motion, excess processing
  • What are standardised parts?

Nuts and bolts that can be used for a variety of tasks, produced within in a set tolerance and dimensional accuracy
  • What are non standardised parts?

Made for a specific function and are not widely available
  • What is concurrent manufacturing?

Involves simultaneously completing designs and manufacturing stages, so less time and lower costs
  • what is quality assurance?
Quality assurance is a way of preventing mistakes and defects when delivering solutions or services to customers, this is done during the whole process of production
  • what is quality control?
A process to ensure that a product is successful. It is based on the following: standard, efficiency, improvement, reliability, system, managment.
  • what is TQM
Total quality management consists of organisation wide efforts to create an environment where employees continuously improve on demands products and services that customers will find of particular value.
  • roboitcis in production
have replaced manual aspects so are quicker, efficeint, accurate, reliable, and can repeat tasks wuth same quality and standard. But it can expensive to set up.
  • what is qrm?

quick response manufacturing is an approach to manufacturing which emphasises the beneficial effect of reducing internal and external lead times
  • what is data integration?
data integration involves combining data from several sources which are stored using various technologies and provide a unified veiw of data
