Hox genes and body plans

• What are homeobox genes?


  They are regulatory genes, which code for homeodomain(part of the protein).

  They control body development (positioning of body parts), they regulate mitosis and apoptosis.
• What is a hox gene?


  a homeobox gene only found in animals (they are 39 and ranged in 4 clusters throughout different chromosomes)
• explain why a cow might have 2 heads?


  mutation to homeobox gene because they are regulatory genes that control body development.(mutation will cause a different body arrangement)
