The central nervous system - receives information from the senses & controls the body’sresponses.
The central nervous system is made up of the brain & the spinal cord. The brain is the centre of awareness. The spinal cordrelaysinformation between the brain & the rest of the body. It’s responsible for reflexes.
The cerebrum - divided into four lobes, each of which has a different primary function
The cerebellum - involved in controlling a persons motor skills and balance
The brain stem - regulates the automatic functions that are essential for life
The diencephalon - contains the thalamus & hypothalamus. The thalamus - relay station for nerve impulses coming from the senses.Hypothalamus - regulates body temperature, hunger & thirst
The Peripheral Nervous System - relaynerve impulses between the CNS & the rest of the body
Is divided into the somatic & autonomic
The Peripheral Nervous system is divided into the somatic & autonomic nervous systems
The Somatic Nervous System - carriessensory & motor information to & from the CNS
The Autonomic Nervous System- governs the brain’sinvoluntaryactivities & is self-regulatory
It’s divided into the sympathetic & parasympathetic nervous systems
Sympathetic Nervous System - 'fight or flight' . Increases heart rate, blood pressure e.t.c.
