  • Supporting families-many women had husbands who died in the war, and needed a wage to support their family.
  • Helping their country-despite being unable to fight, women wanted to help their country by assisting on the medical or mechanical team on the Western Front.
  • Women wanted their roles to change - women were bored with their traditional roles of being unable to travel or work, so they took the opportunities the war gave them.
